Thank GOD, it's the Weekend!

Thank GOD It's The Weekend!

Time to relax and enjoy!

Another week has come and gone, flew by rather quickly, thank goodness. Now the week is over already.

Thank God, it's the weekend! I’m looking forward to relaxing, I hope. Mama’s here, she’s been here a good long while. Keeping her fed and “doped-up” are my only must-dos.

Still, I look forward to a whole lot of quiet time. I hope to do as much nothing as possible all day and for the rest of the weekend.

Last week was busy, but good. The BEST part of the past week was getting to spend more time with Grandson, Jace. He is out of school for Covid-19 and summer vacation.  We spend a lot of time chill-laxing, snacking, eating, and chatting and such.

He’s growing like a California Wildfire, almost as tall as his (short) mommy already. He gets that from his dad and from MY dad.

Well enough about mucha’ nothing. That’s my weekend rant.

Happy Weekend Everyone!

What about you? How was your week? What did you do? What fun things do you have planned for the rest of this weekend? Whatever you do, I hope you enjoy yourself!

Anybody heard any funny jokes lately? I need a good laugh!

May tomorrow bring love, happiness, and peace!

Wishing you a blessed and safe weekend!

If I Had a Sister…

Do You Have A Sister?

I used to wonder what it would be like to have a sister. I often wished I HAD a sister when I was younger. By the time I finished high school in 1969, the thought of having one was not something I thought about much anymore.

I am the oldest child and the only girl with three younger brothers. The boys and I never had any major disagreements. There were only minor problems, like who would get to eat what piece of chicken when Mama fried chicken every Monday for supper.

Another minor problem my oldest brother and I had, was deciding whose turn it was to do a task Mama had yelled out to us from one room to another. That was easily solved when Mama finally yelled that somebody better bring her that glass of water or there would be “butt-whoopins’ ” for the both of us.

Why am I thinking about having a sister and, what does that have to do with the price of rice anywhere? I’m watching the Crime Drama “Cold Case” and Lily and her sister are at it again. Those two have the worse sister relationship I have ever seen. I guess if I had a sister and we had a relationship like theirs, I would not be a happy camper.

Lo and behold though, my daughter Jordyn, is like a sister, now that she’s all grown-up. She is the sister I never had.  What a wonderful blessing, it brings happiness beyond my wildest dreams!

My Photo: Me & Jordyn

Do you have a sister? Did you get along with each other as kids? Do you get along with each other as adults? Did I miss anything by not having a sister as a kid?

Knowing When to Walk Away

Knowing When to Walk Away

© 2008 by ~dellgirl~

Things that I used to do don’t come easily anymore. Painting a room was once a breeze, I could paint one in a day.

My Photo

Hanging wallpaper? Simple, remove the old, prepare the wall, mix the solution for the new, hang it! Done by dinner!

Build a bookshelf from scratch with hammer, saw, and nails – alone - Piece of cake. Shelf finished, primed and painted, ready for use soon as the paint dries.

The list goes on…a distant memory now of days and projects relegated to a special file located in the far reaches of my mind.

Music, my favorite being the kind that makes your feet move, your lips curl into a reminiscent smile, causes your head keep time with it – to good music - makes you want to dance.  I still dance; if only in my mind. Add dancing to the list of things I used to do that don’t come easily anymore.

My Photo

The other day I leaned against the washing machine, gazed intently at the blown-out light bulb, looked down at the floor, back up at the ceiling at the darkness.

Whew!  That’s quite a distance from the floor to the bulb.  I turned to look for the step-ladder. It must be in another room.  Too much trouble to go find it, come back, and finagle all this stuff around to set the ladder up.

Instead, I placed both hands flat on top of the washer, remembering the many times I had placed my hands just-so, hopped on top of the washer and changed the bulb.  It was a good thought.  I let it remain so – a good thought.

One last glance, up at the ceiling, down to the floor, I shook my head, “NO”!

I closed the door . . .

. . . knowing when to walk away!

Needs vs Wants

There are quite a few household and personal things I need to do. But first, I need to get some rest. I want to REST! I want to SLEEP! I want some sleep and some rest!

If I had the opportunity, I could sleep for two days straight only getting up to eat or go to the lady’s room. Seriously!

I need to go grocery shopping soon or the family will think I lost my whole entire mind. I could put away some clutter that’s accumulated. Siiigghh ):

I certainly need to get better acquainted with Sir Hoover, the vacuum cleaner and Lady Pledge, the dust-buster queen. I need to do all this but, will I?

I should probably do a couple of them, maybe all of them. Then again I don’t feel like doing any of them. Truth be told, I don’t WANT to do anything. So I won’t!!!

The more I think about it, the more I think it would be nice to just lollygag and play around on my computer and my tablet. Okay, that settles it. I’m going to diddle the time away until bedtime.

Maybe I can rest when I go to bed tonight.  I don’t know if any of this made sense, but I got it out. That’s my rant for the day!

Just My 2-cents worth,,,

Okay, enough already. Now, go sit down somewhere and be quiet dellgirl.

About Me

100 Words About Me

I am a female, born and raised in the great State of Texas. I am a ‘Daddy’s Girl’ …always have been, always will be. Daddy looks down on me from heaven now. I am still, Daddy’s Girl. I Love You Daddy!

I was born in the fall. That is probably why fall is my very favorite season. I have three brothers, I am the oldest.

I was a tomboy. I played backyard football with guys who later played pro-football.

My daddy taught me to shoot a rifle when I was eight years old. He also taught me to respect guns.

There you have it. That is 100 Words About Me.

Grandparents: Not Just for Women

What Do You Call Your Grandmother?

Raise your hand if you know my grandson, Jace. There you go, I knew it. Jace calls me ‘MiMi’.  I called my grandmother,  “Mama Leona”. My children call my mama, “Grandmom”. They call their daddy’s mama, “Mom”.

I have a first cousin who lives around the corner. Her two grand-daughters call her ‘Mee-Moah’ (I probably didn’t spell that correctly). But, that’s okay, I think you get it.

My oldest sister-in-law’s grandchildren call her ‘Momeee’. All of my cousins on my Mama’s side of the family call my Mama, “Nanny”. She is not their grandmother, but they call her Nanny anyway. All of their children and their children’s children call her Nanny too. She is Nanny to many.

With the introductions out of the way, let’s get down to business. What do or did you call your grandmother? Are you a grandmother yourself? What do your grandchildren call you?

Found Money

I Found Money in the Parking Lot!

The parking lot at the grocery store is full, looks as if everybody and their grandma is out shopping today. If the few items I need to pick up were not extremely necessary, I would keep driving and go back home. It took a minute or two to find a good parking space but, I found one eventually.

I opened the car door and planted my feet firmly on the ground. I looked down to make sure I wasn’t stepping in a wad of bubblegum or a puddle of transmission fluid. The coast was clear so I stepped out. That’s when I saw it…

A Penny!

My photo

I quickly whipped my camera out of my purse and took this photo instead of picking up the penny the way I had done in years gone by.

Have you ever found money on the ground? How much? Do you pick up pennies you find on the ground? Do you know anyone else who does?

Friday Frivolities

Trying to be cute, I decided to title today’s blog post, Friday Frivolities. To be sure I had the correct meaning for frivolous in mind, I Googled “frivolity”.  What I found boggled my mind to the point that I forgot completely what I intended to say.

Here is what I found in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary.

 noun
fri·vol·i·ty | \ fri-ˈvä-lə-tē  \

plural frivolities

Definition of frivolity
1the quality or state of being frivolous. He has no patience for frivolity.

2a frivolous act or thing. He spends money on the latest fashions and other frivolities.

So what is it that discombobulated my mind to the point of total forgetfulness?!

One thing and one thing only threw me for a loop. My #1 favorite high school English Teacher, taught us that you cannot define a word using the word itself.

Here it is in plain English, frivolous used to define frivolity.

Okay enough already, I tried. The more I talk about this, the more bewildered I get.

Have you heard the rule about not defining a word using the word? Do you use online sources to check meanings/definitions, etc? Do you find these sources helpful or not?

TEARS & LAUGHTER CLEANSE THE HEART ~ JL Huie

Are you holding back long-suppressed emotions? Let your feelings flow, right now.

While some of us wear our emotions on our sleeve, others keep feelings bottled up for decades. Strike a balance.

If you are suffering with unexpressed frustration or grief, let the tears flow. Then find a friend to laugh with.

Laughter, however artificial it feels, lightens the saddest moments and bonds us to family and friends.

Happy Weekend to one and all! I hope yours is filled with love, peace, and laughter.

Morning Person or Night Owl

Are You a Morning Person or a Night Owl?

I'm NOT a morning person, my husband is.  He wakes up at the crack of dawn yakking and talking, laughing and the whole 9 yards.  He pops out of bed like a Jack-in-the-Box all bright eyed and bushy-tailed and moves through his morning like the Energizer Bunny.  (((Sigh!)))

Not being a morning person has its pros and cons, and it works for me.  Once the people in my life got it, I don't have to fake it. I don’t have to pretend to be something I’m not.  I can be as grumpy and ugly-faced as all ‘git-out’ and nobody holds it against me.  They nod at me and keep right on moving.

The husband finally understands this perplexing quirk of mine and treats me accordingly, like a piece of furniture.  If I happen to be standing in a spot where he wants to be, he goes around me.

If he needs to talk with me about something important, he makes it short quick and to the point.  He also says ‘excuse me and if you don't mind’ throughout the explanation of whatever it is he needs or wants me to do today.

The adult children in my life are quite another matter.  They have either taken on my persona or their daddy's.  I surmised early-on that whichever way they ended up, it would be okay. As long as everybody knows their boundaries with everyone else, and stays on their own side of the fence.

I tried being a morning person for a while, way way back in the day. It worked for a while when the kids were young. It was fun getting up early and doing things with them. After they grew up, being a morning person didn’t work well for me anymore. I am NOT a morning person! I’m a total night owl…sometimes.

So there you have it, my random rant for the day.

Which type of person are you? Are you a morning person?  Or, are you a night owl? Do you have family members who are one or the other? Which is it? Let us know in the comments. We’d love to hear from you.
