You Know You're Living in 2019 When...

Sharing Humor

These are Old but still true today. So, You Know You're Living in 2019 When...
1. You accidentally enter your password on the microwave.
2. You haven't played Solitaire with real cards in years.

3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of 4.
4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.
5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don't have e-mail addresses or they don't text.
6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries..
7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen.
8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't have the first 20 or 30 (or 50) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it.
10. You get up in the morning and go online before getting your coffee.
11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. : )
12 You're reading this and nodding and laughing.

13. Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to forward this email message.
14. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.
15. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn't#9 on this list...
AND NOW YOU ARE LAUGHING at/to yourself.
There you have it, a little humor to end your day. My 2-Cents Worth!
Can you relate to any of these? Do you know anyone else that does any of these? Which one(s)? Share with us in the comments, we'd love to hear all about it.

I hope you had a wonderful 4th of July!

Happy Birthday Jace!

Happy Birthday Jace!

Grandson Jace turned 8 years old last week. We had a great Birthday Party for him at Urban Air Adventure Park, a fun filled amusement facility. Jace was all over the place, running, jumping, and literally having the time of his life. He was as happy as a little monkey in a banana factory!

A Happy Birthday - Allergen Free Cake

It was a wonderful day of kid-friendly activities. We didn't have to utter the dreaded "No" word not one time. He was free to explore and touch any and everything in the place. What a joyous sight!

I watched happily as he zipped from one activity to another at his usual "fast-as-lightning" speed. I was as excited as a kid under the tree on Christmas morning!

His excitement brought to mind a lot of things. I was especially reminded of a few conversations he and I have had. Boy, the most baffling things comes out of his mouth!

For example:  A Conversation with my 7 year old grandson

Jace: MiMi are you glad I was the one sperm out of all the millions and millions of sperms to survive and be born?

Me: (Glad he can't see the look on my face...) Why, yes Jace. I am glad.

Jace: How glad were you when I was born MiMi?

Me: I was very glad Jace.

Jace: Just...very glad? That's all?

Me: Oh no, I was really really really really very awesomely glad Jace.

Jace: Ok. MiMi I'm hungry.

Me: SMH! Baffled!!!

Enough said! I didn't even want to get into a conversation about how and when did he learn this information. So, I left it alone and went about my business. I'll save the rest for another time.

Have you ever had a conversation with a kid that left you baffled, Shaking Your Head?

1st Day of School 2017

Jace Goes to School 2017

Tuesday September 12, 2017 we celebrate another milestone in the life of Grandson Jace, his first day of school as a second grader. Another year, another BLESSING!

What a long way we’ve come. Many of his health issues and other problems are gone but not forgotten.  They’re logged away in my book of “Thank you GOD for bringing us through the struggles and challenges up to this present time!”

Grandson and his mommy no longer live with me, so I didn’t see him off to school this year. I woke up earlier than usual though, couldn’t stop thinking about Jace going to school.

Around 11:30 am, my daughter texted me to check my email, she’d sent me something. I did. Photos and a video of Jace making his way to class brought the biggest grin to my face!

I smiled, giggled, and laughed OUT LOUD as Jordyn followed Jace with her camera from the car to class. Made My Day!!!

These photos and video are just what I needed, exactly what I wanted. Each frame of the video tugs at my heart, thinking of how truly blessed we are to see and celebrate this day.

He makes his way down the hall, ready to tackle whatever lies ahead. My heart melts again as he begins another journey, another blessed milestone in his life. His journey to 2nd grade is a blessing to behold, Thank you GOD!

Jace's Journey to 2nd Grade

I made it to the end of the video without tearing up, thankfully.

However, when I closed the video my computer returned to my home screen. The emotional dam almost broke wide open. I felt the tears welling up in my eyes, my heart skipped several beats, and my breath came in short quick gasps.

Looking back at me was my screensaver photo of Jace at 14 months old with that big beautiful, heart-melting smile of his. I was about to lose it and start boo-hooing tears of joy all over the place.

ScreenSaver Photo: Jace 14 months old

I shook it off and reminded myself that I promised not to do that. This is GOOD! I’ve vowed to remember the blessing God has granted us. I promised myself to celebrate the milestones and achievements joyfully.

And, that’s exactly what I did. I kept the emotions and tears at bay then said a prayer of Thanksgiving.

Thank God for blessing us to celebrate Jace’s first Day of 2nd Grade, another amazing milestone.

Happy Birthday to Me!

My birthday gift from Grandson & his mommy.

My birthday was Thursday, October 13. Late Wednesday evening after grandson had gone home, I formulated a plan for the night and for the day of my birthday. This is what I thought… I'll make myself a nice plate of something good to eat, get a nice cold drink of lemonade, and prop up on my bed and chill. Then, I planned to rest and relax as much as possible on Thursday.

That did not happen! Papa ~dellgirl~ came in about 7 PM. Around 8 o’clock he started to cook. Everything was ready for us to devour about 9:45 PM. He had made his famous fried catfish, his "to-die-for" mega green salad, guacamole and chips, and hot buttered rice. What a prelude to my birthday!

Thursday morning was routine. Grandson’s mommy, my daughter Jordyn, answered my good morning text with the sweetest happy birthday wish. It brought a big grin to my face. Next, my baby son answered my good morning text with his usual, "hey ma". He didn’t mention my birthday.  So, I figured he was up to something.

Oh well, life goes on.  I picked up grandson after school. We stopped by Sonic for his favorite small green apple slush. Then we headed home. When I turned the corner to pull into the driveway baby son’s truck was parked in the driveway. Needless to say, I started grinning from ear to ear, like a kid on Christmas morning. I knew he was up to something, this is a surprise visit. Happy, happy, happy!

Birthday gift from baby son.

He greeted me, laughing like he’d won the lottery. He held an individual size chocolate cake that he had decorated himself. Party time!!! He lit the candles and we sang happy birthday to me. Grandson stole the show with his antics, as usual. He had a birthday present for me and proceeded to have a conniption fit unless we stopped everything and let him present it to me.

Papa ~dellgirl~ came in just as grandson was explaining every component of his present to me. We all had a good laugh as he demonstrated how I should eat the edible part of his present. He showed me how I should open his birthday card and how to read it. What a fun time!

This turned out to be the best birthday I ever remember. Happy Birthday to me!

1st Day of School 2016

Photo © by dellgirl

This is Grandson’s 1st day of school, Tuesday, August 23, 2016. Doesn’t it just melt your heart to see him walking down that hallway? I choke back tears as I try to put this into words, remembering how Blessed we are to celebrate this milestone in his life.

Remember? He wasn’t supposed to be here. Doctors said his chances for survival from pregnancy to birth were 1-in-3,000. He made it here "against the odds".

How wrong they were! They don’t know MY GOD! HE said that I, dellgirl, could have a grandson.

Here he is, and there he goes to begin another journey.

Okay, back to what I started to say. School actually started on Monday. Grandson missed the first day because his doctor’s paperwork (concerning his allergies and medications) was not in yet.

His mommy called the school to discuss the paperwork issue. She learned that Grandson needed to be present on Tuesday or he would lose his spot in class, paperwork or not.

Tuesday morning, Grandson goes to school, his mommy goes to work, and I spend the morning caregiving for my mama. First there’s breakfast and medications, next comes lunch, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera, and on and on and on.

Around 2:10 pm, I leave home to pick up Grandson from school. At 2:45 pm I get him and we head to the car. Traffic is pretty heavy, but we finally maneuver our way through the maze to the main street.

Grandson’s busy munching on the snack I brought along for him while clicking and swiping on his Kindle. He has only request, “MiMi, can we get a Slush today?”

We stop at Sonic for his favorite afterschool treat, a small green apple slush. I open the straw, pop it into the slush cup, and hand it to Grandson in the back seat. We’re on the road again, home by 3:15 pm.

Another milestone, a great first day at school, Thank God for the Blessing!

So How Was Your Christmas?

Did you have a Merry Christmas? We had a pretty good holiday here, especially grandson, Jace. He got the one big item he wanted and several of the smaller ones, so he was a very happy little boy. We (the grown-ups) had the best time watching him jump for joy as he opened his presents.

He ripped the wrapping paper from packages faster than a paper shredder. As soon as he had the package opened enough to see what it was, he tossed that one aside. In the blink of an eye, he was tearing into the next gift. Needless to say, he had a great time on Christmas day!  We had an even better time watching him having fun.

How was your Christmas? Would you care to share how yours went? What did you do? Who did you celebrate with?

Not everybody celebrates Christmas. So, if you don't celebrate Christmas please do tell me what you celebrate instead?

Happy New Year Everyone!

Thank You Veterans!

Veterans Day holds a unique significance for me. Why? Veterans Day is extra special to me because many of the men in my family served in different branches of the military at one time or another.

My dad served in the Army as an MP during World War II. My oldest brother served in the Army during the Vietnam war. My second brother was in the Navy, he served 20+ years and just recently retired. Several uncles served in the Army, some for 20+ years during both World War II and the Vietnam war.

With such a rich legacy of servicemen in the family, I feel proud that they all were willing to make the sacrifice to serve our country. Thank God for Veterans!

Happy Veterans Day To all Veterans!

We appreciate your selflessness and love for our country.

We are grateful that you willingly offered your life to defend our freedom.

Thank you!

Happy Anniversary

Happy Anniversary To Me
and Papa DellGirl!

July 12, 1969 - July 12, 2009
~ ~ ~

It's an old story [inject a chuckle], old friends read it last year.

We started 1st grade together in our little country town. I didn't know him from a hole in the ground. We got better acquainted in 2nd grade as he was a mischievious little dickens. Fun, but devilish as all "git-out". He and a friend chased me home one day after school...

New friends can read it here.

Happy 4th of July

Remember our veterans who sacrifice so much for the freedoms we enjoy.
Pray for them and for their families on this our national day of freedom celebrations.
Visit a veteran if you can. Call if you can't visit, let them know we appreciate their service to our country.
Call a veteran's mother, father, wife, husband, or family...wish them well on this day.
Happy 4th of July.
