1st Day of School 2016

This is Grandson’s 1st day of school, Tuesday, August 23, 2016. Doesn’t it just melt your heart to see him walking down that hallway? I choke back tears as I try to put this into words, remembering how Blessed we are to celebrate this milestone in his life.

Remember? He wasn’t supposed to be here. Doctors said his chances for survival from pregnancy to birth were 1-in-3,000. He made it here "against the odds".

How wrong they were! They don’t know MY GOD! HE said that I, dellgirl, could have a grandson.

Here he is, and there he goes to begin another journey.

Okay, back to what I started to say. School actually started on Monday. Grandson missed the first day because his doctor’s paperwork (concerning his allergies and medications) was not in yet.

His mommy called the school to discuss the paperwork issue. She learned that Grandson needed to be present on Tuesday or he would lose his spot in class, paperwork or not.

Tuesday morning, Grandson goes to school, his mommy goes to work, and I spend the morning caregiving for my mama. First there’s breakfast and medications, next comes lunch, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera, and on and on and on.

Around 2:10 pm, I leave home to pick up Grandson from school. At 2:45 pm I get him and we head to the car. Traffic is pretty heavy, but we finally maneuver our way through the maze to the main street.

Grandson’s busy munching on the snack I brought along for him while clicking and swiping on his Kindle. He has only request, “MiMi, can we get a Slush today?”

We stop at Sonic for his favorite afterschool treat, a small green apple slush. I open the straw, pop it into the slush cup, and hand it to Grandson in the back seat. We’re on the road again, home by 3:15 pm.

Another milestone, a great first day at school, Thank God for the Blessing!

  8. Yes, yes, yes Rhapsody, he certainly has grown. And, I DO enjoy every minute with him. He is such a little character, sometimes all I can do is shake my head at the insights that come forth from his mouth.

  9. I bet it was just a serious rush to see your very own grandson making his way around that school. Children are more of a blessing than they are aware of so we have to keep telling them. Then, when they have kids of their own they understand. Blessings be upon y'all !

  11. And what a beautiful grandson he is, too. 1 in 3,000? Holey smokes! That's amazing! I remember those first days of my children going to school. I wish I could have been there for my granddaughter. Sigh... Thank goodness for Skype!
