The AMAZING Jace, Creator & Master Designer

Zazzle Creations by Grandson, Jace!

Grandson Jace watched as I created designs and applied them to products on Zazzle. He wanted to do it too.

I had him open his MS Paint program, and he whipped out this design in less than 10 minutes...))): siiigghh.

It usually takes me a loooong time to complete a design.

Happy Birthday Jace!

Happy Birthday Jace!

Grandson Jace turned 8 years old last week. We had a great Birthday Party for him at Urban Air Adventure Park, a fun filled amusement facility. Jace was all over the place, running, jumping, and literally having the time of his life. He was as happy as a little monkey in a banana factory!

A Happy Birthday - Allergen Free Cake

It was a wonderful day of kid-friendly activities. We didn't have to utter the dreaded "No" word not one time. He was free to explore and touch any and everything in the place. What a joyous sight!

I watched happily as he zipped from one activity to another at his usual "fast-as-lightning" speed. I was as excited as a kid under the tree on Christmas morning!

His excitement brought to mind a lot of things. I was especially reminded of a few conversations he and I have had. Boy, the most baffling things comes out of his mouth!

For example:  A Conversation with my 7 year old grandson

Jace: MiMi are you glad I was the one sperm out of all the millions and millions of sperms to survive and be born?

Me: (Glad he can't see the look on my face...) Why, yes Jace. I am glad.

Jace: How glad were you when I was born MiMi?

Me: I was very glad Jace.

Jace: Just...very glad? That's all?

Me: Oh no, I was really really really really very awesomely glad Jace.

Jace: Ok. MiMi I'm hungry.

Me: SMH! Baffled!!!

Enough said! I didn't even want to get into a conversation about how and when did he learn this information. So, I left it alone and went about my business. I'll save the rest for another time.

Have you ever had a conversation with a kid that left you baffled, Shaking Your Head?

1st Day of School 2017

Jace Goes to School 2017

Tuesday September 12, 2017 we celebrate another milestone in the life of Grandson Jace, his first day of school as a second grader. Another year, another BLESSING!

What a long way we’ve come. Many of his health issues and other problems are gone but not forgotten.  They’re logged away in my book of “Thank you GOD for bringing us through the struggles and challenges up to this present time!”

Grandson and his mommy no longer live with me, so I didn’t see him off to school this year. I woke up earlier than usual though, couldn’t stop thinking about Jace going to school.

Around 11:30 am, my daughter texted me to check my email, she’d sent me something. I did. Photos and a video of Jace making his way to class brought the biggest grin to my face!

I smiled, giggled, and laughed OUT LOUD as Jordyn followed Jace with her camera from the car to class. Made My Day!!!

These photos and video are just what I needed, exactly what I wanted. Each frame of the video tugs at my heart, thinking of how truly blessed we are to see and celebrate this day.

He makes his way down the hall, ready to tackle whatever lies ahead. My heart melts again as he begins another journey, another blessed milestone in his life. His journey to 2nd grade is a blessing to behold, Thank you GOD!

Jace's Journey to 2nd Grade

I made it to the end of the video without tearing up, thankfully.

However, when I closed the video my computer returned to my home screen. The emotional dam almost broke wide open. I felt the tears welling up in my eyes, my heart skipped several beats, and my breath came in short quick gasps.

Looking back at me was my screensaver photo of Jace at 14 months old with that big beautiful, heart-melting smile of his. I was about to lose it and start boo-hooing tears of joy all over the place.

ScreenSaver Photo: Jace 14 months old

I shook it off and reminded myself that I promised not to do that. This is GOOD! I’ve vowed to remember the blessing God has granted us. I promised myself to celebrate the milestones and achievements joyfully.

And, that’s exactly what I did. I kept the emotions and tears at bay then said a prayer of Thanksgiving.

Thank God for blessing us to celebrate Jace’s first Day of 2nd Grade, another amazing milestone.

A Special Thank You!

A Thank You from Grandson, Jace!

How do you thank someone who has happily surprised the dickens out of you? What can you say that doesn’t come off as trite or cliché? Sometimes you can’t. So with that in mind, I’ll try to get to the point, pronto.

Grandson, Jace, made a video a while back and instructed me to spread the word and make it go viral. Like the good MiMi that I am, I posted the video. I included Jace’s request for Likes, comments, Subscribers to his Youtube channel, AND Shares. I’m Laughing Out LOUD…again… at that from a 7 year old.

I want to say a big THANK YOU to, AnthonyGodinho, RhapsodyPhoenix, Erica wagner, and MarianShankle for your support. Your surprise visits to Jace’s video were awesome!

Jace and I were grinning from ear-to-ear when we saw your Likes and Comments. We were like kids under the tree on Christmas morning. I don’t know which one of us was more excited. Thank you guys!

I want you to know how grateful I am that you took the time to visit Jace’s video. We really appreciate your participation on it.  Your visit and your support made Jace a happy little camper! Jace says, "Thank You All!"

Thank you all for helping him with his “Let’s Go to Sky Zone” video. You Guys Rock!

1st Day of School 2016

Photo © by dellgirl

This is Grandson’s 1st day of school, Tuesday, August 23, 2016. Doesn’t it just melt your heart to see him walking down that hallway? I choke back tears as I try to put this into words, remembering how Blessed we are to celebrate this milestone in his life.

Remember? He wasn’t supposed to be here. Doctors said his chances for survival from pregnancy to birth were 1-in-3,000. He made it here "against the odds".

How wrong they were! They don’t know MY GOD! HE said that I, dellgirl, could have a grandson.

Here he is, and there he goes to begin another journey.

Okay, back to what I started to say. School actually started on Monday. Grandson missed the first day because his doctor’s paperwork (concerning his allergies and medications) was not in yet.

His mommy called the school to discuss the paperwork issue. She learned that Grandson needed to be present on Tuesday or he would lose his spot in class, paperwork or not.

Tuesday morning, Grandson goes to school, his mommy goes to work, and I spend the morning caregiving for my mama. First there’s breakfast and medications, next comes lunch, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera, and on and on and on.

Around 2:10 pm, I leave home to pick up Grandson from school. At 2:45 pm I get him and we head to the car. Traffic is pretty heavy, but we finally maneuver our way through the maze to the main street.

Grandson’s busy munching on the snack I brought along for him while clicking and swiping on his Kindle. He has only request, “MiMi, can we get a Slush today?”

We stop at Sonic for his favorite afterschool treat, a small green apple slush. I open the straw, pop it into the slush cup, and hand it to Grandson in the back seat. We’re on the road again, home by 3:15 pm.

Another milestone, a great first day at school, Thank God for the Blessing!

Freddie and Sebbie Kick Mats- Luxury Car Seat Back Protectors: A Product Review

Photo is mine
It has been all of thirty-five years, give or take a few years, since I had a small child in my care. So, I had no idea I needed Car Seat Back Covers until I started picking up my first and only grandson from school last year. When I pick him up from school every day, the first thing he does is to prop his feet up on the back of the seat in front of him.

For that reason, these seat back covers keep me from having to ask grandson to take his feet down off the seat.  These seat protectors are a sanity saver.  They are the perfect solution to protect my car seats from grandson’s wet, grimy, muddy, dirty and/or dusty shoes.

The seat covers take all of that dirty stuff. They take the wear and tear of the constant contact of his shoes. The cover keeps the back of the seat clean and scuff-free.

This car seat cover is a good fit for my car. It was really easy to install and it is equally as easy to remove it. My daughter, grandson’s mommy, installed it in a matter of minutes all by herself.

The greatest benefit of this seat cover is that it keeps me from having to clean the actual back of my car seat. This cover takes the beating while the back of the car seat remains in mint condition, like new.
Photo is mine
Another good thing about the seat cover is that it is easy to clean. You can quickly wipe it clean with a damp towel or sponge in a matter of seconds.

This seat back cover is worth the money. I recommend it.

How the Fight Started

I’m fighting with my daughter over a man. Yes, you heard me right. My daughter and I fight over a man. Here is how the fight started.

Sometime during the middle of October, my 4 year old grandson and I sat playing a game on his Kindle Fire Tablet. He leaned into me, snuggled closely and asked, “MiMi, am I Mommy’s baby?”

With my most serious face and a long passionate tone, I answered him, “Nooooo, you’re not Mommy’s baby. You’re MiMi’s baby.” He snuggled even closer, wrapped his little arms around my neck and squeezed. “I wuv you, MiMi.”

“I love you too, baby boy.” I answered him. He repeated this action and conversation several times. Each time I was rewarded with a great big hug and deliciously sweet kiss. This went on for weeks, off and on.

One day his mommy passed near where he and I sat while this exchange was going on. He asked his mommy, “Mommy, am I MiMi’s baby?”

His mommy did as I had done initially as she had witnessed this scene many times. She replied, “Noooooo, you’re not MiMi’s baby. You’re mine.” His face broke out in the most priceless grin you ever saw.  He looked at me and asked me again.

There we were his mommy and me. He had us going back and forth as to whose baby he was and was not. That’s our lil’ man.

He loved every minute of it. He was as happy as a, “hog-in- slop” at the back and forth between my daughter and me about whose baby he was.

After a few weeks, she and I determined that he is already getting a joyful kick out of two women fighting over him even at this young age.

Go figure!

Happy

WOW, is all I can say right now!  What an awesome day! I am alive, and I am healthy. What more can I ask? Nothing, I have it all. Thank GOD.

The weather here is overcast with clouds in the background, not a hint of sunshine anywhere on the horizon. The wind is high out today, tree limbs and leaves sway gently. Bags, paper, and other debris float by every once in a while. Absolutely gorgeous overcast day, I love it!

I can't begin to tell you how thrilled I am to be here writing this quick post today. I’ve been away caregiving my mama AND my 5 year old grandson. I have not been able to get on here to do anything.

This post will be very brief because it’s almost snack time for both of them and medicine time for Mama. So, I will post this and run to get their needs met.

There is so much I want to say, so many questions I want to ask, but I have to go take care of these two care receivers and their tummies and their medical issues.

I just dropped in for a minute to say hi to everyone, wanted to let you know where I’ve been.

Okay, I'll stop for now. If not I’ll never get this finished and published. I will be back as soon as I can, take care. See you all later.

Have a great weekend!

So How Was Your Christmas?

Did you have a Merry Christmas? We had a pretty good holiday here, especially grandson, Jace. He got the one big item he wanted and several of the smaller ones, so he was a very happy little boy. We (the grown-ups) had the best time watching him jump for joy as he opened his presents.

He ripped the wrapping paper from packages faster than a paper shredder. As soon as he had the package opened enough to see what it was, he tossed that one aside. In the blink of an eye, he was tearing into the next gift. Needless to say, he had a great time on Christmas day!  We had an even better time watching him having fun.

How was your Christmas? Would you care to share how yours went? What did you do? Who did you celebrate with?

Not everybody celebrates Christmas. So, if you don't celebrate Christmas please do tell me what you celebrate instead?

Happy New Year Everyone!

50 Days of Pre-School

How cute is this!? Grandson Jace’s school celebrated 50 days of school last Tuesday, November 5, 2014. The note to parents informed that the children could dress as children dressed in the 1950s.

The boys could wear black or white T-shirts with the sleeves rolled up, black leather jackets or blue jean jackets with the collar turned up, and blue jeans with the legs rolled up. To top off, or bottom off, the outfit they could wear Converse sneakers. We used to call them tennis shoes, now they’re called sneakers.

Oh, how cute this is going to be!

Jace’s mommy wondered what clothes he had available and what kind of 1950s looking outfit she could put together for him. I spent the time smiling inwardly, thinking about how cute the little kids would look in their outfits.

I didn’t see Jace before he left for school so I spent the day wondering how the celebration was going. Jace usually strips out of his school clothes before he comes into my room to tumble around on the bed. Tuesday he came to my room straight away to show me his outfit for the day.

WOW, he looked so cutely 50-ish in his little blue jeans, white T-shirt, and Converse sneakers! He babbled and jabbered and told me all about his day at school. It sounded wonderful, like they had the best old time.

There you have it, 50 days of pre-school for grandson Jace.

Fever-Free Week

I have been trying to get here to post since Thursday. I didn’t quite make, but here I am, finally. Last week was relatively uneventful as far as new illnesses or problems go, thank God for that.

Jace was able to go to school every single day last week. He remained fever-free all week. He now only has the remains of a cough. The coughing was rather disconcerting so, Jace’s mommy called the doctor.

While Mommy was on the phone, the doctor heard Jace coughing in the background. She did not like the sounds of that and, she changed Jace’s cough prescription on the spot over the phone. The new prescription worked, Jace’s cough is now much better.

Mama left Friday around noon headed back to my brother’s for a while. Thankfully, her week here was plain old routine, of meals, snacks, and meds at scheduled times. Every once in a while we were able to throw in a short walk outside, if the weather permitted.

Okay, enough already. I just wanted to let you know how things are, how they were, and what I have been up to. Next time, I will TRY to post something other than our issues and problems.

Thank you for stopping by to check on me and for the warm encouraging words. Much love to you. I hope you had a wonderful weekend.

Emergency Room Visit

About six o’clock last Sunday evening, grandson Jace, started with sniffles, coughing, slight chills, and the beginnings of a fever. His mommy did her Mommy thing with the proper medications. His fever remained.

Just before it was time for his bath and bedtime ritual, everything was sort of okay. All was quiet for a while. He even went to bed and slept a little while.

Around eleven pm, my daughter called out for me to come in and help out. Jace was coughing so hard he started to spit-up. The fever had spiked and the chills were severe. We talked about his issues and decided to be proactive instead of waiting around for something to happen.

We headed for the emergency room. We had to carry him inside and hold him because of the chills and fever. The doctor gave Jace a good examination. He gave Jace medicine for the fever and another for his cough, once he had gotten Jace’s medical history. He ordered chest x-rays to see what was going on inside our little trooper and we waited for results.

Twenty to twenty-five minutes after taking the medicines, Jace was on the floor jumping and playing like nothing had happened. The doctors and nurses smiled and gave him big thumbs up as they passed our area and saw the immediate change in him.

We walked through the door at home at 3:05 am Monday morning. Jace was not ready to go to bed and Mommy and I were both starving. He sat between us as we tore open our Jack-in-the-Box breakfast.

With a fever-free baby, medical questions answered, and food filled stomachs, we head to bed…to sleep and give thank God for healing blessings once again.

Jace missed school all last week because fever issues. So we start anew this week with Jace returning to school.

Thank you God for your blessings!

1st Day of School - 2014

Grandson Goes to PreSchool

My gandson started school for the first time on Monday. Pre-K 4 to be exact. The day began with him bouncing excitedly into my room around 6:15 am. All the while he chants, “Wake up, MiMi. Time to wake up, MiMi!”

I opened my eyes to that big bright smile of his and his usual cheerful greeting, “Good morning MiMi. You wake up, MiMi.”  With as much enthusiasm as I could muster at that hour of the morning, I replied. “Good morning, Jace. How are you? Yes, MiMi woke up.”

We spend the next few minutes talking about Angry Birds, teleporting Angry Birds, and other Angry Bird related things. I tried to interject thoughts and questions about school into the conversation, he answered quickly and returned to his conversation about things he wanted to talk about.

I helped him with his breakfast and getting dressed for school. His mommy finished last minute details like packing his lunch, his snack, and his backpack.

Jace is ready, chatting a mile-a-minute. Soon his mommy is ready to go. Mommy grabs her purse and Jace grabs his Angry Birds Red Bird backpack. They head out the door for the car.

Jace is going to Pre-School. My baby is going to SCHOOL!!!

Happy Birthday to Me

Going to Great-Granny's

Saturday, September 21, 2013, Jordyn and I took a road trip to Jasper for a surprise visit with Mama, it had been a long time since we visited and Jace wasn't with us. Needless to say, Mama had tons of questions about him. We had a wonderful visit and promised to come back the second weekend in October and bring Jace. Friday, October 11th, we take Jace to Jasper to see her.

Our first and only stop along the way is at the service station in the Indian Village for gas. Jace has done really well so far. Jace and I walk around and explore a bit while his mommie fills the gas tank. Jace is captivated by some interesting looking rocks on our little walk.

We pick up a few rocks and I show him how to 'chunk' them down the little grassy slope to occupy ourselves (him) for a minute while his mommie gets gas. He enjoys his rock finding adventure and I love watching him 'chunk' rocks down the hill.

We make it to Jasper and Jace steals the show at great granny's house, he is the 'star-of-the-weekend' (as usual). He is his usual sweet & sour self, he does his zero-to-one-hundred thing like only he can do.

Mama has some kind of allergy related cough going on and, we didn't realize that until we got back home. The first time she coughs, Jace runs over to her chair and starts patting on her knee, HARD - - that's as far as he could reach (she thought it was a beating).

Jordyn and I realize Jace is doing his version of patting someone on the back when they cough. Mama thinks he's fighting her. We explain that he is helping her by patting her when she starts to cough, then she gets it.

Saturday I spend the day taking care of paperwork and doing stuff for Mama that she can't do well herself anymore. Mostly it's going through junk mail and getting rid of all the requests for donations (that's a whole 'nother story there).

Sunday is my birthday! She sings the 'Happy Birthday Song' (line by line and word for word) as soon as I walk into the living room for the morning. She sings to everyone, always has...always will I guess. I thank her, give her a big hug, and head to the kitchen to get my morning cup of coffee.

We spend the morning catching up here and there, setting future goals, and preparing for the trip home. Mama ceremoniously presents me with a gift basket somebody had previously given her for my birthday present, she's been doing that for a while now. I guess today it would be called 'recycling' ... giving away old stuff you don't need or want and you're not able to run to the store any old time you want to.

My mother-in-law gives me a gift, several pairs of earrings. It was a good day since Mama and my mother-in-law thinks enough of me to want to give me something.

My daughter, Jordyn, bought me 2 beautiful tank tops with lace around the neckline, one is red. I've been wanting a red one for a long time, but I haven't gotten around to buying it myself. My two grown boys give me giant big huge hugs and "I love you(s)".

Grandbaby, Jace, huggggs my neck tightly and sweetly says, "Happy birthday, MiMi. I wuv you!"
PaPa dellgirl cooks, makes me dinner, and gives me some spending change. What more could I ask for!?

What a wonderful Happy Birthday it is!!!

Life has some good moments in between the not so good ones. These are a few of the good ones. I will cherish and remember these good times with a smile on my face for a long time to come!

Happiness is ...

My heart was wrapped up in clover the night I looked at Jace!

Happiness is like a butterfly.

The more you chase it, the more it eludes you.

But if you turn your attention to other things,
It comes and sits softly on your shoulder.

I Could Be Dead!!!

Instead I'm Counting Blessings
© 2011 - dellgirl

I am thankful for all the things we as people seem to take for granted, starting with our health and strength. There are 5 specific things I am extremely thankful for. These 5 things are gifts from God and, I am sincerely thankful that I can see, hear, touch/feel, taste, and smell.

I am very thankful that I can wake up each morning and see the beauty of God’s creations. I further realize that if clean my eyeglasses I can see even better. Thank you, God for ophthalmologists.

I am thankful to be able to hear the sounds of nature and the ordinary everyday sounds of life, especially laughter.

I am thankful that I remain on this side of the dirt and I’m not buried down under it. I can feel this overwhelming Texas heat and be grateful for the sense of feeling.

I am thankful to be able to taste the many wonderful foods and beverages God allows us to provide for ourselves.

I am thankful that I am able to smell freshly cut grass, the sweet fragrance of beautiful flowers and fruits, and the awesome pleasantness of earth after the rain. Yesterday I marveled at the mouth-watering aroma of perfectly seasoned chicken breasts sautéing on the stove.

Last night I snuggled in bed next to a sweet-smelling sleeping baby Jace. I thank God I am able to smell Jace’s sweetness, gaze upon his peaceful sleeping body and, know that I am truly blessed!

Thank you God for all your loving blessings!

For me, I have found that gratitude in times of trouble has actually helped me get through it and, that gratitude in adversity always turned the adversity into a blessing.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~

What are you thankful for? Please share a thing or two or three that you're grateful for with us.

Let's make this Thankful Friday 'At the Starting Gate'.

Time Flies

It’s hard to believe there are only 6 more days until Christmas. Where did the time go?! Not that I had a whole lot of plans for anything in particular, never-the-less, time seems to have gotten away from me this year. Why am I surprised? Time has gotten away from me for the last several years. So, what’s new?

Grandson was sick over the Thanksgiving holidays. He developed a large lump on his neck under his ear the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. His doctor said it was most likely swollen lymph nodes, not to worry too much if there were no other symptoms or fever. There wasn’t.

Then he started losing his appetite on Thursday and Friday (before Thanksgiving), wouldn’t eat much of anything. He did drink liquids though, and we were thankful for that. This went on the whole weekend and Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday, Jordyn took him in to see the doctor about the lump and about his loss of appetite. Everything checked out fine, didn’t find anything wrong. Good!

Wrong!

Late Wednesday afternoon, around 4:30 or 5:00 pm he started coughing and coughing, coughed until he gagged and spit up, a lot. This lasted for what seemed like an eternity. Alarming, but he returned to his normal busy self after the vomiting was over. It happened again a couple of hours later and, we really began to worry. By 9:00 pm he had developed a fever of 100.2 degrees. When the fever reached 100.5 degrees, Jordyn called the doctor. We followed the doctor’s orders, got the fever down, and thanked God we didn’t have to go to the emergency room.

Thanksgiving morning Jace was his usual busy busy busy self playing as if nothing had happened the night before. However, Jordyn and I were two nervous Nellies watching his every move. Thanksgiving Day went rather smoothly, considering our anxieties. 4:30 or 5:00 pm rolled around and we found ourselves in the same predicament as the day before.

Oh boy, it’s going to be a long night! If we can just make it through the  night without having to go to the emergency room, we’ll be at the doctor’s office as soon as the doors open Friday”, I thought to myself.

We made it through the night, Thank God!

Friday we’re at the doctor’s office! After a good going over the doctor told us Jace had a severe case of bronchitis. She prescribed antibiotics and we were on our way, thanking God for his goodness all the way home. Thankful for the blessing that it was not something more serious, we settled in for the night. We kept watchful eye on the little busy one who never once acted sick in any way other than throwing up and having a fever.

And, the days since then have all been just as busy and mostly chaotic but, it’s all good. Everyone is healthy and well. Thank You Lord!

Tip For a Successful Doctor's Visit

We took grandson for his 2 year old check-up the last week of April. I went along in case they had to do blood work, Jace absolutely hates that. It takes all the hands we can get to hold him for that procedure.

Grandson is not your average “go-sit-down-play-a-game-read-a-book” kid. He’s a constantly moving busy busy busy non-stop blurrr of motion. He preferred to walk down the corridor instead of sitting quietly, so I volunteered to walk with him while Jordyn got them all signed in. Maybe I should say, I volunteered to walk behind him (he’s just that fast) as he trotted along at his usual fast-paced speed.

By the time we reached the exit doors at the other end of the corridor, yes…waaaaaaaaay down there, I (MiMi) needed a rest. It took some doing but, I finally coaxed him back to our seats. There sat Jordyn, smiling knowingly at the sight of me huffing and puffing along behind an energetic unfrazzled, grandson.

He didn’t want to sit with her or with me, nor did he want to sit still in the toddler chair. Jordyn offered him a toy from his carry-bag but, that didn’t accomplish what she had in mind. She reached in their bag again and asked, “grandson, do you want to eat corn?”

Without further adieu, grandson marched over to the toddler chair and sat down as cool as a cucumber. He started to munch on his corn-on-the-cob with a “died-and-went-to-heaven look on his face.

“Well, I’ll be John Brown! Who knew corn-on-the-cob would be a welcomed sight in the waiting room at the doctor’s office!?” Very productive!
