I am forever thankful that YOU considered me worthy of your blessings, and especially for granting me another year.

This, my 74^th Birthday, means:

I am healthy and thankful to have a wonderful and loving family.

I am especially delighted and proud to be a Grandmother to a beautiful and flourishing grandson. You gave us 10 years with him that doctors said would not happen. Thank you for this precious miracle child!

I am happy and thankful that I have been so wonderfully blessed. Thank you LORD!

If I Had a Sister…

Do You Have A Sister?

I used to wonder what it would be like to have a sister. I often wished I HAD a sister when I was younger. By the time I finished high school in 1969, the thought of having one was not something I thought about much anymore.

I am the oldest child and the only girl with three younger brothers. The boys and I never had any major disagreements. There were only minor problems, like who would get to eat what piece of chicken when Mama fried chicken every Monday for supper.

Another minor problem my oldest brother and I had, was deciding whose turn it was to do a task Mama had yelled out to us from one room to another. That was easily solved when Mama finally yelled that somebody better bring her that glass of water or there would be “butt-whoopins’ ” for the both of us.

Why am I thinking about having a sister and, what does that have to do with the price of rice anywhere? I’m watching the Crime Drama “Cold Case” and Lily and her sister are at it again. Those two have the worse sister relationship I have ever seen. I guess if I had a sister and we had a relationship like theirs, I would not be a happy camper.

Lo and behold though, my daughter Jordyn, is like a sister, now that she’s all grown-up. She is the sister I never had. What a wonderful blessing, it brings happiness beyond my wildest dreams!

The TRUTH About Marriage

Marriage: Give & Take

The following words of wisdom were passed on to my brother and to me when we were in high school during the early 60s. These wise words were from our daddy, the late Hermise Mason Wilkins.

Daddy started by telling us to be sure to marry someone you really and truly love, someone you would still want to be married to when you’re both old, fat, and wrinkled. He said, “Make sure it’s REAL love, not any of that puppy love stuff.”

Daddy said to love them like you’re never going to be hurt, love them unconditionally. BUT, he cautioned us, “Never love nobody more than you love yourself.” He further explained the following to us.

When you marry give it all you’ve got, EVERY day. Some days it will be 50/50, you’ll give 50% and your spouse will give 50%. THIS is a GOOD day!

Some days you will have to give 60% because your spouse is only giving 40%.

Other days your spouse will only give 30% so you have to give 70%.

There will even be days when you’re giving 80% and your spouse is only giving 20%.

Wait! If you think that’s bad wait until you’re giving 90% and your spouse is giving only 10%.

It gets even more challenging than that. There’ll be days when your spouse is giving nothing-nada-zero-zilch - 0%. Then, you have to give 100%. GIVE IT!!!

From 50/50 to 0/100 give your marriage ALL you’ve got – ALL the time.

Then, if things don’t work out you will have done your part. Don’t let it be you that didn’t do all you could do in your marriage.

Daddy ended with, "Marriage is not always 50/50. Marriage might be 0/100 on any given day."

There you have, my daddy’s Wise Words of Wisdom concerning marriage. This was long before Teddy Pendergrass released his song “When Somebody Loves You Back”.

The moment I first saw you, I knew you were special. What I didn't know, was that you were and are my angel-in-disguise! My sunshine! Having you as my daughter, is truly a precious gift from God. I am blissfully happy that our Heavenly Father gave you to me to love.

You have made my life richer and more joyful than I could ever imagine.

If I tried to count all the lessons I learned from you, I would be counting for a long time. Thank you, sweet daughter, for being such an inspiration in my life!

I am happy, pleased, and proud that you are mine and I am yours. I’m hopeful that we have many more happy years together.

Happy Anniversary to Me!

Happy Anniversary to Me & PaPa~dellgirl~

The mister, PaPa~dellgirl~, and I started 1st grade together in our little country town. I didn’t know him from “a-hole-in-the-ground”. We became better acquainted in 2^nd grade as he was a mischievous little rascal. He was a lot of fun, but devilish as all “git-out”!

In junior high and high school we were sometimes in the same classes, sometimes we were not. We were friendly and enjoyed each other’s company whenever we were around each other.

We attended the same college. I was the only girl from our high school graduating class to go to that particular college. He started coming by my dorm room just to chat and to check on me. I was so shy I rarely left my room. If I wasn’t going to class or to the library, he knew he could find me in my room.

During my junior year, he started taking me out to eat every once in a while. He knew I never went to the cafeteria to eat. He often took me to shop if I needed to since he had a car. Sometimes he’d simply take me out for a ride.

That was “IT” for me, I was hooked. Things got serious. The next year I graduated in May of 1969. He had another year to go since he was majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I was “done” and “ready” so, we married in July … after I graduated. And the rest is history.

Now… here we are ~ 50 years later.
