True Confession

My "MUSE"

~~ Music ~~

What gets me going? What inspires me?

What makes me want to breathe deeper,

smile wider, even giggle a little,

then, laugh out loud . . . alone,

and break out into a smooth dance step…

with my broom,

All by myself

. . . in the kitchen?

It’s MUSIC!

Soul-stirring

Plain, simple

Spine tingling

Foot tapping, head bobbing

from side to side,

GOOD MUSIC!  <<<Click

How I Came to Love Music

How I Came to Love Music

When I was a kid way back in the 50s and 60s, my daddy was a music lover. He loved all kinds of music, from gospel to blues to country and even classical music. You name it, Daddy loved it. Yes, he loved it ALL!

Every Friday evening after work he would start the weekend fun by putting his favorite “record of the day”, on the record player. When Daddy put the music on, we knew the fun was about to begin.

Many times the fun was simply playing records on the record player and listening to them. There were other times when the fun included playing games like shooting pool in our tiny kitchen on Daddy’s 6 foot long pool table. Sometimes it was playing in the yard pitching horse shoes, or playing baseball, or basketball and many more.

Whatever the case, there was always music playing at our house on the weekend. And, Daddy didn’t just “play” music, he exude music. He sang it, along with the record or alone…by himself. He encouraged us to sing along with it and with him. He danced to it and always . . . reached for my hand to join him in the dance.

Daddy didn’t “do-no-half-stepping” when it came to music. He always opened up all the windows and the doors. He had to let the music out! When he opened the windows and doors, everybody in the neighborhood could hear the music.

I became a music lover myself by listening to Daddy’s music, by watching him make music a fun experience. And especially ... Dancing with my daddy!  Now, I am my daddy’s star student.

I LOVE me some music!  I am a music lover extraordinaire!!  I love all kinds of music, from gospel to blues to country to jazz, and classical. I love it ALL!

There you have it, a teeny-tiny bit about me and my love of Good Music.

Do you like music? What is your favorite kind of music? How do you like your music, soft or loud? Do you know anyone who loves music like my daddy did?

Earth Wind & Fire: That’s The Way of The World

Earth Wind & Fire: That’s The Way of The World

Who told that boy he could do that with his voice?! Who taught him HOW to do that?!  Who told that boy he could sing like that!? Who in the world told him how good he sounds!!! I'll bet it was his grandma. LOLL

Oh Gawwd, this is good!

Who in the world told that boy he sounds like something sent from heaven to make this old woman’s soul jump for joy!

Who listened to him practice as a little boy, hour after hour, day after day…holding a stick,  a pencil or, a rolled-up piece of paper (as a microphone)…practicing in the backyard… that he could sing something so deliciously captivating that this one old black woman would smile grin laugh and talk out loud to herself listening to his song?

I love me some Earth Wind & Fire: That’s The Way of The World!

Have you heard this song before? What do you think about it? What is one of your all time favorite songs? Tell us in the comments please. We would love to know.

Music: My Muse

Have you ever had a song or a tune stuck in your head that won’t go away? I woke up this morning to the sad news that Aretha Franklin had passed earlier.

From that moment on Aretha’s songs and music were stuck in my head and they wouldn’t go away. Every step I took, every move I made, Aretha’s music was there. “Respect” skipped merrily through parks and playgrounds of my cluttered brain. “I Say A Little Prayer” danced happily on top of my overcrowded to-do-lists… in my head.

Most of the time, I can only stop the music stuck in my head by playing the tune over and over until I’ve overdosed on it. Today CNN performed the repetition so I didn’t need to go digging for my music.

Do you know Aretha Franklin? Do you like her music? I do. I love, love, love me some Aretha Franklin music.

What I love most is Aretha’s rendition of a song. It mesmerizes me. It holds me captive, unable to break away. The melodious rise and fall of her voice is spellbinding! Her clear throaty sound reaches way deep down inside my soul. I’m a willing prisoner to the heavenly sound of her words and music.

"Yea, oh yea - only Aretha . . ."

The journey she takes with her voice from low to high octave ending with that final burst of sweet-sounding deliciousness ... brings shivers of utter and complete joy to these untrained but adoring ears of mine.

Her voice, her words, her delivery, and her music are a recipe for sensual musical bliss. The melody and timing has my body moving along to the beat rhythmically. I’m swaying back and forth and side to side. I’m totally hooked!

I close my eyes and my mind wanders back-in-the-day. I’m immediately transported to a time and place when all was right with the world.

From song to song, beginning to end, is a soul soothing lullaby. It’s a perfect combination of vocal excellence and music long forgotten. It’s Classic!

What else can I say?

Aretha Franklin’s music is pure raw sensuous ecstasy.
