Yes, I ate the last cookie!
Not
only did I eat “The Last Cookie”, I brought the bag in from the grocery store,
took it straight to MY room and, hid
it from everybody’s line-of-vision. These cookies are MINE!
I
used to save the last of anything and everything for my family. These days,
there’s no more saving the last of everything for somebody else. There is no
more thinking they might be hungry, and no more thinking of them before I think
of myself. Those days are long gone.
It
is about time they think of ME for a change. They need to be saving
things for me without me having to ask for it. They should remember to save me some of whatever it is they are
eating or drinking.
It
took a long time for me to get to this place in time. I took the long way
around to get here, like I have done with far too many things in life.
Sounds
selfish?! This is not as selfish as some might think because “they” are all grown. There is no need
for me to think of them first, last, and everywhere in between anymore.
I
even wrote a poem called “The Last Cookie” in my self-published book in 2008. I’ll
share that poem with you…one day…if I don’t forget.
Do
you have little ones? Do you find yourself saving food, drinks, and snacks for
them? What are your thoughts on saving “stuff” for others instead of
eating/drinking it yourself?
You're right; it's not selfishness, it's self preservation.
ReplyDeleteAt a certain age, one has to put ME at the top of the agenda in order to survive.
Duta, I agree with you and I like how you said that. Thank you for leaving this nice comment.
DeleteWe have things for our granddaughter. Luckily I don't like the things she likes!
ReplyDeleteI hear ya' Mike. Grandson Jace, and I can't eat the same things. He has multiple allergies and eats differently (more healthy) from me/us.
DeleteThere are only the two of us, so I think we try to be considerate.
ReplyDeleteAC, Thank you for stopping by and leaving this really nice comment.
DeleteLOL, in my case, it's only me, so I don't have to think about anyone else, at least when I'm home. Wishing you a Happy and Blessed Easter my dear friend. Hope you're staying safe and healthy!

DeleteI had to laugh when I read your post! That's me all over! I'm starting to be like you now. When I know the kids are coming and I don't want to share I start hidding things!! I have to say now that my Granddaughter and her boyfriend are shopping for us she knows what I like and surprises me with some goodies!

DeleteDon't blame you at bit, sometimes I have to stash things from my husband or they would be gone the first day. The oatmeal raisin cookies look good. Never heard of that brand.

DeleteWe're constantly saving treats for our grandkids weekly visit. My wife made banana bread when one said he'd like some. Right now my wife is baking cookies because our eldest son wanted her to try making some from a recipe that he'd found. But the missus also made home-made cinnamon buns for Easter. That's jut for us.
