I have
often heard people say they wish they could go back in time, that they would and
they would change some things. I was a pretty smug young lady and, I thought
the idea was absurd.
I was
always the one self-righteously proclaiming, “I don’t NEED to go back. I’m going to live my life so I won’t have any
regrets. So, I definitely don’t need to go back”, I said loudly from my perch
upon my mighty High-Horse.
Life
came along and gave me a good slap in the face, taught me a few things the hard
way. That set me stumbling on a different path than the holier-than-thou path I
had envisioned for myself.
Okay, okay,
okay. I cry “UNCLE”. I give!
Can I go back? Can I change my mind?
If I could change my mind, If I
COULD go back, I
would go in a heartbeat. I would change some things. As a matter of fact, I
would change a whole LOT of things. For starters, I would…
-Break
some rules, especially some of those rules my mama had. I got beatings all the
time anyway. So breaking those rules would only mean a few more beatings.
Hahahaaaaa!
-Speak
up for myself more instead of always listening to other peoples’ points of
view.
-Party
like crazy! I’d sneak out of the house at night and party instead of staying
home like a “miss-goody-two-shoes”. I’d have some of that fun my friends
laughed and talked about when grownups were not around. I’d get more beatings,
but so what. I got more than my share of them without cause.
-Be more
adventurous! Enough said about that.
-I would
be as WILD AS A DAT-GUMMED DEER!!!
There
now, I got that off my chest.
There is one other thing I would do while I'm at it. I would stop by club ZaBangp and dance and have a good time with the other kids waiting for their buses to go home. I'd dance and laugh and have a good time with the other kids instead of going straight home like I always did. So what does that mean? A good butt whooping, well probably going to get one anyway for some little thing or another.
ReplyDeletewisdom can come from looking back and realizing our regrets are an important part of who we became and are!
ReplyDeleteYes Lin, The most important thing I learned as I got older is that I was quite the high and mighty young lady. Life taught me quite the lesson on that one!
DeleteIt would be nice to revert back to your young self with all your memories and start "over". I could certainly been able to save my father from lung cancer
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about your father Adam. My sympathies are with you. You were right about going back with our memories. I would also wish to have The knowledge that I have gained if I could go back.
DeleteYeah, it's nice to look back sometimes, Leoana, and see how things could have turned out if...but like you ended this post...it's never too late to be more adventurous! :)
ReplyDeleteYou're right AJ, it's good to look back...SOMETIMES...not too often though. I'm working on the "be more adventurous" part, trying to stop being the same boring old "stick-in-the-mud", for Jace.
DeleteThank you for visiting and especially for the nice comment.
