Tuesday Tips

Alternate Uses For Stuff

Many things that we use every day can be applied to other mind-boggling uses.  Here are 3 frequently used products that can be used for something other than what they were originally intended for.

Without further ado, here is the list.

Uses for Baking Soda

In the Garden: Sprinkle baking soda on the soil around your plant with a flour sifter to keep pests away. Avoid sprinkling it on your plants!

Babies & Pets: Clean and deodorize baby toys in a baking soda solution. This also works for dog toys.

Cooking: Add 1/2 teaspoon baking soda to your water when cooking turnip or mustard greens to remove the bitter taste.

Uses for Vinegar

Deodorize the kitchen or bathroom drain: To keep drains fresh, pour a cup of white distilled vinegar down the drain once a week. Allow it to sit for 30 minutes then flush with cold water.

Repel Spiders from Patio or Other Outdoor Areas: To repel spiders mix one cup of white vinegar and two cups of warm water in a spray bottle. Spray it around doorways or window frames to keep spiders away.

It also repels mosquitoes and smaller insects like ants.

Boil A Cracked Egg: To boil a cracked egg, add 2 teaspoons white vinegar to 1 quart water to keep the white from running out.

Uses for Toothpaste

Stop Itching From Insect Bites: Apply toothpaste about the size of a dime to an insect bite or sting to stop the itch. Use the paste, not the gel. Let it dry on your skin.

Remove Fish or Garlic Odors from Your Hands: Rub your hands with toothpaste. Then rinse your hands. No more odors.

There you have it, my short list of Alternate Uses for Everyday Stuff. There’s more for another day and time.

Have you ever used any of these items as described above? Do you know of a different way a product can be used? Please share it with us in the comments section. We’d love to hear all about it.

  6. I buy Baking Soda in the Big Generic box,it gets used for all kinds of things.
One thing you might want to try, is shampoo for clean-and-shine. Not the good stuff, but that bottle you bought a year ago and never liked. A dime sized blob on a dry damp sponge will shine up a toaster, the kitchen counter, or a sink. smear it on, and then wipe it dry, or in the case of the sink, just wash it off. Great for shower stalls, and cars. It's got carnauba wax in it, which is what makes your hair shiny, and expensive car wax. swoop it on the car, swirl it around a bit, and rinse it with the hose. No buffing needed.
