Brain Boosting Foods

Did you know “Coffee Is Good for the Brain”?

I didn't know that when I started drinking coffee in high school. I took a liking to it instantly. I have been drinking it almost daily since that time. Although I was introduced to coffee for reasons that were not so pleasant, I love coffee anyway.

When I was a junior in high school, Mama would wake me up every morning at 5:00 o'clock am to help her iron clothes for the families she worked for before I had to get ready for school. The first few times she woke me, I was not a happy camper and it showed on my face.  If looks could kill . . .

One particular morning when I stumbled in to begin ironing, Mama told me she had made coffee and that I should drink a cup of it to help wake me up. I did. It helped. That was the beginning of my love affair with coffee.

I learned in the last year or so that people who drink a lot of coffee in their 40s and 50s reduced their odds of developing Alzheimer's disease.

I don’t know how true that is, but it is very interesting. I used to drink three, four, five cups of coffee a day. Now I only drink one cup a day, doctor’s orders. He said too much coffee is not good for the old blood pressure.

Oh well, do you drink coffee? Do you like it? Do you know anyone else who drinks coffee? How much? How often?

  1. I drink a mocha each morning. My husband used to drink a lot of coffee too when he was working, but he drinks it only a couple of times a week now because of his blood pressure problems.
